With Greece’s future more secure, island finds renewed interest

International real estate consultancy Engel & Völkers reports that the Greek island of Rhodes saw an approximately 20% jump in luxury real estate inquiries over the first four months of 2015 compared with the same period last year. Engel & Völkers attributes the renewed interest in Rhodes to Greece’s (seemingly) secure future in the euro, with partner Georg Petras noting:

"The financial crisis has had a weaker impact on the price structure of the luxury second home market on Rhodes than on the market for first homes. Luxury holiday residences did drop in value slightly during the crisis. But prices are now on the rise again, thanks to the high demand.”

The rising demand appears to be targeted at the usual suspects: coastal homes with great views or direct sea access, or three-plus bedroom properties with substantial land plots. More: Greek Islands Wait Out the Storm The consultancy reports that sea view properties on Rhodes east coast have seen a rise in prices from 500 euros per square meter (about 46.5 euros per square foot) to 3,000 euros per square meter (around 280 euros per square foot) over the previous year.
