A Long Island mansion pitched with particular appeal to Chinese buyers found a taker in just under three weeks, according to the listing agent, Jason Friedman of the Friedman Team. The home in Lattingtown was built on part of the estate once owned by the Republic of China’s former first lady, Madame Chiang Kai-shek. She lived at the Lattingtown estate for 23 years before moving to Manhattan in 1988. Listed on July 17th, the property went under sales contract just 18 days later. The purchase was an all-cash deal, with a closing expected in October. There are more than 100 potential buyers on a “waiting list” in case the sale does not close as expected, according to Friedman. Located on the Gold Coast of New York’s Long Island, the home sits in a quiet and exclusive neighborhood. But what attracted most of the buyers was its connection to Madame Chiang Kai-shek’s former estate. Madame Chiang, also known as Soong May-ling, was the first lady of the Republic of China and wife of President Chiang Kai-shek. “Over 90% of the inquiries came from Chinese buyers from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan,” Friedman said. “We’ve only arranged three showings, two of them made offers.” In fact, the property received more than ten offers during the first couple of days on the market, all from buyers who had only seen the home online. “We had expected inquiries from Chinese buyers, but we never imagined it being so crazy.” Follow Mansion Global on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Write to info@mansionglobal.com
