Dan Meis, the American architect best known for designing the Staples Center, Safeco Field and Paul Brown Stadium, has just parted with his midcentury modern home in Calabasas, California.
Designed by Malibu-based architect Douglas Rucker, the four-bedroom house on Cold Canyon Road closed on Aug. 9 for $2.03 million. The home was originally asking $2.25 million, but "as soon as we reduced the price to $2.095 we received multiple offers," said listing agent Brian Linder. The sale has yet to be made available in public records, so the buyer is unknown.

Mr. Meis bought the property in 2015 for $1.875 million, public records show.
He renovated the home by introducing new materials and finishes, the listing states. He also added new hardwood floors throughout and a new bathroom. Spanning 2,986 square feet, it comes with walls of glass, skylights, three bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, two indoor fireplaces and one outdoor, multiple living areas, and an art studio with its own entrance.
In the future—if the buyer feels like expanding—plans permit the addition of a hillside swimming pool and guest house.
Mr. Meis, who has homes in Manhattan and Westchester, New York, is working on several soccer stadium projects in Europe and finds it difficult to get back to the West Coast, hence the sale, said Mr. Linder.

When it comes to their real estate, architects have pretty demanding expectations. "They are much more critical, their aesthetic standards are much higher," Mr. Linder said. And Mr. Meis, he added, is "one of the most aesthetic people I’ve ever worked with or known."
One of the stadiums Mr. Meis is currently working on is a new home for soccer club Everton F.C. in Liverpool, England. He could not be reached for comment. The Los Angeles Times first reported the sale.
