Short of posting a "keep out, we're famous!" sign, celebrities take all kinds of measures to ensure their privacy. They erect giant walls (ahem, Taylor Swift), add shrubs, install giant gates, and pay for round-the-clock security. . But, if you're Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest, you simply buy the house next door and call it a day.

Who said stars aren't reasonable?

According to the Los Angeles Times, the actress and screenwriter bought a Santa Monica house for $2.2. million—again, fairly reasonable by famous-folks standards— that's the neighbor to the other home they've owned for over two decades.

Details aren't abundant, but tax records show the two-story residence—which clocks in at just over 1,900 square feet—was built in 1987 and includes three bedrooms, two baths, and, of course, a swimming pool.

As the Times pointed out, Ms. Curtis and Mr. Guests are part of a breed of famous and/or ultra-rich figures who purchase adjacent properties in an attempt to maintain some semblance of seclusion—something pros think make sense.

"No matter how larger, luxurious or expensive a home is, there's always someone next door," top Elliman broker Noble Black told Mansion Globalus. "Buying the neighboring property solves that issue—it's you next door! And the owner gets a stand-alone guest house to boot. It's the perfect solution for the wealthy and those who require the utmost privacy."

Of course, buying a pad a few paces away provides some other perks, too, outside of standard privacy. "That way, they don't have far to get home after a great party next door," added Southeby's International broker Storey Badger.
