Having your own pool, while definitely gratifying, is hardly headline-making as far as real estate goes. But having your own pool on the terrace of your apartment? That's a different story; one that developer Jeffrey Fish is hoping to write in downtown Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Mr. Fish is in the process of pitching Fifth and Hill, a radical condo building in DTLA's Pershing Square, where buyers can—among other things—swim in their own balcony lap pool that literally hangs over the street and features glass bottoms and sides. Fish filed the project with the city last week, and—if approved—will feature nearly 60 stories, condos, commercial space, the individual pools, and a 13th-floor "sky lobby."

"The Sky Lobby, a multi-story open space cut out of the center of the building’s structure, creates a space to enjoy views of downtown, and for light to pass through the building’s core. The residential tower will appear to float above it," Mr. Fish said in a statement, according to Curbed.

As the Times pointed out, the building could provide a shot in the proverbial arm to Pershing Square, which has undergone several unsuccessful redevelopments through the years. Mr. Fish appears to be a champion of the area, having already developed Perch, a popular rooftop restaurant and bar at 448 South Hill St.

While floating pools have been erected before in cities—Dubai, London, Shanghai and Auckland to name a few, plus one is set to open at 626 First Ave. in New York next year—these are believed to be the the first ones in Los Angeles.
