Kathy Griffin likes to make a statement with her homes. "Every house I get has to be a middle finger to Hollywood," said the 55-year-old comedian, who is known for poking fun at celebrity culture. "I have to have a house that says ‘screw you Hollywood—I made it.’"

Now Ms. Griffin is putting one of those statements on the market for $5.495 million. She said she’s selling the Hollywood Hills house because she recently bought an even bigger property: a $10.5 million Bel-Air home that she said is next door to musician Kanye West and his wife, reality television star Kim Kardashian West.

Ms. Griffin’s Hollywood Hills house is roughly 8,000 square feet and served as the backdrop for her Bravo reality show "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List." "I was on a show called ‘My Life on the D-List’—of course I have to have an A-list house," she said.

The contemporary house has five bedrooms, an elevator and an indoor reflecting pool with a fountain, Ms. Griffin said. Observation decks provide views of the Hollywood Sign and the surrounding hills, according to real estate agent Aileen Comora of the Agency, who has the listing with colleague Paul Lester. Outside there’s a saltwater swimming pool, a built-in stone hot tub, a cabana (red-headed Ms. Griffin said shade is crucial for her complexion) and a covered dining area.

"Unfortunately I can’t boil water," Ms. Griffin said of her kitchen, "but I’ve had many caterers who have enjoyed it."

Ms. Griffin said she bought the Hollywood Hills house for $2.85 million in 2004, and later bought several adjacent properties for privacy, bringing the total size of her property to about 1 acre. As a result, "you’re not on your neighbor’s ass." She added that she remodeled the house three times.

Her new Bel-Air home is a Mediterranean. "I did end up going larger, which I admit is ridiculous," said Ms. Griffin. As for the close proximity of the Wests, she joked: "I’m waving at them from my window right now." The couple didn’t respond to a request for comment.
