The serene and charming house, which sits across the pond from Steven Spielberg’s home, is a tale of two Virginians.

"I had admired Jaque’s work," said current owner Andrews Walker, a retired financier, referring to Jaquelin T. Robertson, a renowned architect and city planner.  Mr. Walker and his wife, Angelika Walker, a retired journalist for German news magazine "Die Spiegel," commissioned the architect to build a house from scratch.

Both Robertson and the Walkers are from Virginia; the architect’s family from Richmond, and the client’s family from Orange, where the  Walkers founded the Woodberry Forest School in the late 19th Century.  "Our families knew each other," Mr. Walker said. "These things count for us Virginians."

The Walkers bought an empty plot of land on Georgica Pond, and invited the architect to East Hampton. "I wanted to capture the view," Mr. Walker said. And capture it he did.

The house sits on a three-and-a-half acre site, with a rolling lawn and 408 feet on Georgica Pond. Victoria Borus, a Manhattan interior designer, advised the Walkers on the interior.

The Walkers are selling to downsize, and are moving to a cottage in the village of East Hampton.
