Entertainment mogul David Geffen will list his Fifth Avenue apartment overlooking Manhattan’s Central Park for $27.5 million.

The roughly 5,000-square-foot apartment, located on a high floor of the Parc V cooperative, has two bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms and a "soft contemporary" interior with an open floor plan, said listing agent Deborah Grubman of Corcoran.

Mr. Geffen purchased the unit for $14.17 million in 2010, according to public records. Ms. Grubman would not identify the seller, but said her client is selling because he has finished a renovation on another unit in the building. Mr. Geffen bought that unit, a 12,000-square-foot duplex penthouse, for $54 million in 2012 from socialite Denise Rich, records show—a record price for a New York co-op at the time.

Ms. Grubman said the unit for sale was reconfigured by the late architect Charles Gwathmey—one of the so-called "New York Five" modernists—with furnishings by interior designer Rose Tarlow. The six-room apartment has exposures on all four sides and views of Central Park. There is also a sound-proof screening room with a projectionist booth, she said.

Mr. Geffen, 73, is a co-founder of the film production company DreamWorks, as well as the founder of several other media ventures, including Geffen Records. In 2015, he donated $100 million to Lincoln Center, where one of its concert halls now bears his name. He couldn’t be reached for comment.

Ms. Grubman and David Adler of Corcoran have the listing.
