Central Park Tower, which will become the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere when completed in 2019, will launch sales later this year.

Extell Development confirmed its plans for the 1,550-feet building located at 225 West 57th St. in a news release Thursday.

Central Park Tower, with a $3 billion investment, is being designed by Chicago’s Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, whose works include other record-setting structures. The company is responsible for the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which at 2,722 feet high is the world’s tallest building. The architects are also behind the Jeddah Tower currently under construction in Saudi Arabia, which if it goes as planned, will rise over 3,300 feet, debunking Burj Khalifa.

With Central Park Tower, Extell will be adding yet another ultra-luxury residential building to West 57th Street, known as Manhattan’s Billionaires’ Row. The company also developed One57, which was completed in 2014.

Extell also announced Thursday that it will co-develop Central Park Tower with SMI USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Shanghai Municipal Investment, a company that invests in infrastructure and which is responsible for developments such as the Shanghai Tower, the tallest building in China.

"SMI has developed the tallest building in Shanghai and we look forward to our partnership as we jointly develop the tallest building in New York City," said Gary Barnett, founder and CEO of Extell, in a statement.

Central Park Tower, announced in 2012, will feature 131 stories. It will include high-end housing offering 360-degree views of New York City and beyond. The property will also have retail space, including fashion retailer Nordstrom’s first full-line New York location and its second largest store in the U.S.
