35-Room Waterfront Mansion Within Commuting Distance of New York City

Aptly named "All View" by its original 19th-century owner, this 35-room brick mansion is perched on a nearly three-acre peninsula that juts out into the Long Island Sound.

"From every single room in the house there is a view of water," said the listing agent, Halstead’s Louise Phillips Forbes. "To experience 360-degree views of water is quite special."

"There is something incredibly peaceful to wake up there, with the morning eastern light, and then to get the sunsets in the evening," she said.

The mansion is on a bluff at the end of a rocky, angled stretch of the gated Premium Point Peninsula.

It boasts 13 bedrooms, nine wood-burning fireplaces, three kitchens, and a new 14-zone geothermal heat and air conditioning system.

"The front door is a solid piece of oak that weighs 600 pounds and is about four inches thick," Ms. Forbes said.

"This house, as grand and huge as it is, there is something very intimate about it," she added.

The expansive brick home was built in 1890 for Charles Oliver Iselin, a son of railroad magnate and wealthy financier Adrian G. Iselin. Charles Oliver Iselin was one of the most famous yachtsman of the time and a multi-time defender of the America’s cup. He built a breakwater in Echo Bay, which is adjacent to All View, so that he could safely dock his yachts, including the "Vigilant," "Defender" and "Columbia," next to his home.

The grounds of All View were originally conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of New York City’s Central Park. Today, the grounds include a private beach, boat dock, badminton/mini-tennis/basketball court and a newly refurbished 30-by-60-foot dark gray mosaic glass swimming pool with LED lighted fountain jets and a built-in hot tub.

There are also stone-paved viewing terraces, two mahogany decks, a custom fire pit dining table for 16 with built-in banquette, mature trees, two wisteria-covered pergolas, a koi pond and a rose arbor.

In the 1990s, the home was owned by African chief and mining tycoon Antonio Deinde Fernandez and his wife, Aduke, Ms. Forbes said. He was also a diplomat and a former ambassador for the Central African Republic to the United Nations. He was considered one of the richest men in Africa when he died in 2015.

Fernandez added substantial east and west wings to the mansion as part of an overall update and renovation.

"It was rumored that he spent $26 million on the renovation," Ms. Forbes said. "The detail is just spectacular."

Some of the former ambassador’s touches include having his initials carved on bronze door hinges and adding jaguar-style carved animals on the window locks.

Other architectural and design details include hand plastered vaulted ceilings, a gilded central staircase, two-story white marble columns, parquet floors and custom closets throughout, including his and her dressing rooms in the master suite.

The kitchens boast high-end appliances including custom La Cornue and Viking ranges, two Gaggenau ovens, five refrigerators (three of which are Sub-Zero), three Miele dishwashers, and one Viking dishwasher.

Some potential buyers have lingered "for four and a half hours," Ms. Forbes said. "That tells you something about the house."

Neighborhood Notes 



"Premium Point is a private gated neighborhood that was founded in the 1880s," Ms. Forbes said. "There are only 32 homes out there."

"Traditionally, the residents were movers and shakers from New York City," she said.

Notable residents of the Westchester County neighborhood have included artist Norman Rockwell and former Yankees manager Joe Torre.
