The most expensive home ever to be listed in the Venice Canals has just hit the market, with an interior décor that might look familiar to anyone who has visited the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood—both are the work of interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz.

The three-story house is priced at $5.5 million, a record for this part of Los Angeles. The property that previously held the record was listed for $600,000 less. It sold for $4.5 million last summer, according to the Real Deal.

Built in 1988, the home was recently renovated by Venice architect David Hertz. It covers 3,296 square feet, with three bedrooms, three full bathrooms and one partial bath. There’s also a sprawling roof deck, two balconies, a sauna and a yard with a hot tub, according to the listing.

Inside, sheer curtains sway in front of glass walls. Many of the sky-lit rooms are fitted with chandeliers. A Baroque-style mural is emblazoned on a bathroom wall; other walls are painted soothing pastel shades.

Mr. Noriega-Ortiz’s résumé includes not only the Mondrian L.A., but also its counterparts in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood and in Scottsdale, Ariz. He has designed several celebrity nests as well, including a SoHo penthouse for rock star-cum-interior designer Lenny Kravitz.
