$20 Million Penthouse For Sale in Manhattan—Again

The unit, whose price has remained unchanged, is the only residence still available at the Sterling Mason in Tribeca

For a $20 million Manhattan penthouse, the third time may be the charm.

Penthouse C of the Sterling Mason in Tribeca was listed for the first time in July of 2013, when the 32-residence building on Laight Street was still under construction. The property was taken off the market by January of 2014 and placed back on the market by the end of that year, the property’s price history on StreetEasy shows. By mid-2015, the 17-room unit was again pulled from the market and put up for sale again last December. It isn’t clear when it was delisted for the third time but it became available for the fourth time a couple of days ago. (Editor's Note: Dan McInerney, vice president of Taconic Investment Partners LLC, the developer behind the Sterling Mason, returned calls seeking comment on Tuesday and said that the property was listed just three times, including this last time.)

Throughout the years, one thing has remained intact: the listing price, at $20 million.

When Mr. McInerney responded on Tuesday, he also commented on the price, saying it hasn't been an issue, and that they made the decision to wait until the unit was fully finished and furnished.

“We didn't want to leave anything to the imagination of the buyer,” he said.

Mr. McInerney said that $20 million was a fair price for Penthouse C in relation to similar properties they've sold and that there's been immediate interest.

Penthouse C is the only one of a total of three penthouses at the Sterling Mason that is still available, according to the building’s website. Penthouse B, which has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, compared with four bedrooms and five bathrooms of Penthouse C, is currently under contract for $23 million, according to StreetEasy. Penthouse A, with four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, sold in October of 2015 for $20.3 million, just below its original asking price of $21 million.

Listed with Douglas Elliman, Penthouse C is a duplex that boasts a 40-foot-long great room with a gas fireplace adjoining a 1,065-square-foot private terrace. A stairway with a double-height foyer connects the unit’s two levels, according to the listing.

Some common features of the six-story building include a library lounge, available to residents for private events, and an interior courtyard featuring a reflecting pool.
