In what could be the perfect house for an elementary school-aged child — or any children’s literature enthusiast — the home at 1 Squires Path in East Hampton comes with an illustration of Eloise done by her original illustrator, Hilary Knight.
The 89-year-old Mr. Knight, who according to the New York Post is selling the house to downsize, was featured in an HBO documentary last year called “It’s Me, Hilary: The Man who Drew Eloise,” produced by Lena Dunham.
Eloise, the 6-year-old Plaza Hotel resident made famous in a book written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Mr. Knight, is depicted as a monkey in the mural. Mr. Knight sketched and painted the piece, which also features a collection of other characters. It’s on the wall of a bathroom on the main floor of the house.

And as part of an open house a few days ago, Mr. Knight himself held a book signing and estate sale.
The 2,300-square-foot “cottage” he’s selling for $1.1 million has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and comes with a greenhouse with a deck that overlooks the pond and pool.
The home is made almost entirely of wood, from its exterior siding and rooftops to its interior ceilings throughout the home,” says Barbara Lobosco of Douglas Elliman, who’s handling the sale.
“The kitchen cabinets are all raw wood,” she says. “The door knobs are white porcelain.”

There’s a studio and pool house, too, that’s surrounded by little paths of moss and small stones that lead you throughout the property, according to Ms. Lobosco.
It’s “just a wondrous place,” she says. “It’s as close to nature inside and out as one can get.”
