Listing of the Day Location: Provincetown, MassachusettsPrice: $3.399 million This starkly modern and dramatic home was built in 2013 as a guesthouse to an adjacent flat-roofed, glass-walled house that Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus School in Berlin, designed in 1959. Gropius is considered a pioneer of modern architecture. The guesthouse was developed by entrepreneur Cliff Schorer, who owns the Gropius house.

“Cliff has a love for mid-century architecture,” said listing agent Rose Kennedy of Kinlin Grover Real Estate. “He has three-plus acres...and wants to create a small enclave. This is the first of four houses.”  Schorer subdivided the acreage and commissioned architects Gisue and Mojgan Hariri of Hariri & Hariri in New York to build the guesthouse. As David W. Dunlap, a New York Times reporter, noted in his book “Building Provincetown,” the new house is an homage to “its distinguished predecessor: A glass box framed in wood with its main floor cantilevered over its basement floor and a clerestory level above.”   The home is both horizontal and angular.  Like the house designed by Gropius, it has dark wood and tones of gray. The property has views of a marsh, a breakwater and Cape Cod Bay. It’s a five-minute walk to town and a quarter-mile walk to Herring Cove, where you can go for a swim. No one has yet lived in the home, which was furnished and photographed for Interior Design magazine. The furnishings are not included in the asking price but could be negotiated as part of the sale. The Stats The 2,462-square-foot house has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. It sits on a .37-acre lot. Design Pedigree The house features dynamic architecture and strong, sensuous materials. Ipe wood clads the top of the house and some of the interiors. Floors are poured concrete, and there is a wood-burning fireplace. The Hariri sisters have designed homes, art galleries, and cultural centers internationally, all of which have a common denominator of strength and beauty.   Agent: Rose Kennedy of Kinlin Grover Real EstateView this listing
