Former child actress and fashion designer Ashley Olsen is in contract to purchase a two-bedroom condo in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood, according to people with knowledge of the deal. The roughly 3,000-square-foot unit encompasses a full floor at 37 East 12th Street, a 19th century building being converted to condos by Edward J. Minskoff Equities. With a Beaux-Arts cast-iron facade, the building has a 24-hour-doorman and a fitness center. Sales at the building started in 2014.

Jared Seligman of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who represented Ms. Olsen in the deal, declined to specify the sale price but said a similar unit in the building is on the market for $7.3 million. He also declined to discuss her reasons for buying the unit, but he noted that with only six units, the building is “very private.” Ms. Olsen couldn’t be reached for comment. Ms. Olsen, 29, and her twin sister Mary-Kate have parlayed their fame as child stars into an entertainment and fashion business. In 2006 they founded luxury fashion line the Row. In 2007 Ms. Olsen purchased a house in Los Angeles for $1.575 million, according to public records. She sold it in 2010 for $1.399 million. With her sister, she paid $7.43 million in 2004 for a penthouse at 1 Morton Square in the West Village, then sold it in 2010 for $7.7 million, according to public records.
