After retiring from the NHL in 2010, former hockey player Brendan Witt moved to an 82-acre property in Montana. Now, with his family spending more time in California to support his teenage daughters’ interest in marine biology, Mr. Witt says he’s “unfortunately” putting his property on the market for $3.1 million. Almost entirely surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land, Mr. Witt’s property is in the southwest part of the state near the Stock Farm Club, a golf course and residential community founded by brokerage-firm chief Charles Schwab. Mr. Witt, 41, says he chose the property in part because of its proximity to Lake Como, where he can go ice skating in winter. Measuring about 8,600 square feet, the house has an elevator, seven fireplaces and a hot tub on the back deck. The Witts keep horses on the property as well as a wolf named Tecumseh, which they adopted as a baby. Mr. Witt said he’s not sure if Tecumseh and the horses will accompany them to their new home, which he said may be in the San Diego area. “I hope so, but it depends on where we end up moving,” he said. Mr. Witt, who hails from Canada, spent 14 years in the NHL, playing for the Washington Capitals, the New York Islanders and the Nashville Predators. The listing agent is Bill McDavid of Hall and Hall.
