The 12-room spread encompasses three floors of the Upper East Side building on East 90th Street. It hit the market last week.

"The apartment is in its entirety perfection," said listing broker Alexa Lambert of Stribling & Associates in a statement to Mansion Global. "But the room that literally stops the presses is the great room, or ‘penthouse’ on top of the apartment."

"Many years ago—around the time it was built—this room was used as a sort of gathering place for cigar smoking and poker. Today, however, the room feels like a treehouse aerie floating above Central Park and the reservoir," Ms. Lambert said. The room is surrounded by a wrap-around terrace, where the building’s water tower is perched.

Ms. Lambert declined to comment on the owners of the property or any financial specifics relating to their purchase.

The five-bedroom apartment has been completely renovated and designed by AD 100 interior designer David Kleinberg, according to the listing with Ms. Lambert, Marc Achilles and Julie Soffen.

It has a formal living room with Central Park views, a terrace and a wood-burning fireplace, a corner dining room, a breakfast room, high ceilings and its monthly maintenance runs to the tune of $12,184 per month.

The 21-story neo-Georgian building was designed by the architect George Pelham in 1929. It’s "very prestigious," according to the StreetEasy listing page for the building.
