Listing of the Day: A Ski Chalet in Chamonix

Unwind at this contemporary-yet-cozy “cabin” in the French Alps

Save

Location:  Chamonix, France

Price:  €6.3 million (about $7.1 million) Beth Guillebon, an American property developer who lives in Geneva, has built three ski chalets in Chamonix so far. “My husband is a huge lover of the mountains,” Guillebon said. “He’s so in love with Chamonix that I’ve fallen in love with it as well.” Guillebon wanted to do “something different” with her third project, a modern house at the top of the Chamonix Valley. “So I built it in the shape of a star,” she said. The house has five points, each a bedroom suite with a private balcony. The elegant rooms are fitted with picture windows that frame views of the mountains. “Each bedroom feels like a cabin all to itself,” Guillebon said. The Basics The 4,843-square-foot chalet sits on nearly half an acre. The house has four floors, two of which are below ground, and six bedrooms. In addition to the suites, a dormitory-style bedroom on the first floor includes six full-size beds. Design Pedigree “I’ve added a little bit of French sophistication,” Guillebon said, referring to the rich designer furnishings that will be included in the sale. Draperies by Christian Lacroix hang in the bedrooms; a Ralph Lauren Home couch sits in the media room. A handmade table from Portugal is the focal point of the dining area. “I really tried to think about what people would love to see,” Guillebon said. High-Tech Home Guillebon commissioned an Italian construction company to build the chalet, which is powered by geothermal energy. “I feel we are all responsible for our carbon footprint,” she said. The house is equipped with a fully automated video surveillance system that can be controlled by smartphone, tablet or laptop. “You feel a little bit more in control of the home when you’re far away.” Amenities After hitting the slopes, visitors can leave wet boots and clothing to dry in a heated room (nicknamed the “ski box”) before heading downstairs to the spa, which is equipped with a steam room and a sauna. There’s also a fitness center, a home theater and a wine cellar. Outside, a patio surrounds the heated swimming pool—for those ready to dive-in year-round. Neighborhood Notes Set at the base of Mont Blanc, the highest summit in the Alps, Chamonix is a year-round destination best known for its world-class alpine skiing. In the spring and summer months, the area also offers hiking, cycling and an 18-hole golf course. The chalet is nestled in the hamlet of Le Lavancher, between the town’s center and Les Grands Montet, the largest ski station in the Chamonix Valley. “It’s for people who really love the mountains,” Guillebon said of the picturesque village. Additional Perks The property can be rented for €60,000 per week. Agent: Joanna Leverett, Cluttons View the full listing.
