The legendary architect designed the New Canaan home and lived in it for more than 20 years

Save

Location: New Canaan, Conn.

Price: $5.85 million This midcentury modern home, designed by the late Marcel Breuer, is widely considered to be a turning point in the architect’s career. “This is one of the most essential midcentury modern homes,” said listing agent Sherri Kielland of Houlihan Lawrence New Canaan Brokerage. Breuer built the house in 1951 and lived there with his family for more than 20 years before selling it. The property would change hands several times in the years to follow, with the new owners making changes to the original house. The current owner, who is an architect, collaborated with architect Toshiko Mori to renovate the home. Mori added a glass-and-steel structure to the property, which houses the master bedroom and is linked to the main residence by a glass corridor. The project was finished in 2008. The 4,777-square-foot house sits on roughly 3 acres. It has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two partial bathrooms. The property also includes a stone pool house.
