A newly listed penthouse atop a skyscraper in Melbourne, Australia, claims one of the best views in the Southern Hemisphere.

A fully furnished, 86th-floor penthouse is on sale in the soaring Eureka Tower, which is located in the Southbank business district. At 975 feet, Eureka is the second-tallest residential building in the Southern Hemisphere after Q1 in Gold Coast, Queensland, and while this penthouse isn’t at the very top of the skyscraper, it’s pretty close. There’s also a full-floor unit on the 87th floor.

The seller is taking expressions of interest for the property starting at A$18 million (U.S.$13.8 million) until Dec. 6, said Greg Herman of Melbourne Sotheby's International Realty.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom unit is one of only a few full-floor penthouses that sit on the top floors of this touristic tower. It has 360-degree views of Melbourne and the only fireplace in the luxury building, according to a Sotheby’s International Realty listing.

Designers have spent two-and-a-half years outfitting and furnishing the 7,100-square-foot apartment with rich wood paneling and details, grand dining areas, a theater room with overstuffed, asymmetrical sofas and an ensuite bathroom with a spa tub, according to the listing details.

The listing has dubbed the theme of the interior "New York-style" art deco. Geometric shapes, a gold leaf entrance, brass and ornate ironwork all give a nod to Prohibition Era in the Big Apple.

The unit even comes with a self-playing piano.

"It has the highest-quality finishes," Mr. Herman said.

Mr. Herman did not disclose who the owner is, but said the current seller bought the unit 11 years ago as a mere shell when the tower was just completed for a little over A$7 million (US$5.4 million).

The apartment also has a sitting area called the "garden room" because it overlooks the Royal Botanical Gardens and includes its own small pebble garden.

The tower, completed in 2006, has become a popular tourist spot since it opened its 88th floor as a public observation deck. The 556-unit building has a number of smaller units on the market, including a one-bedroom on the 17th floor for A$650,000 (US$497,000).
