Luxury apartment hunters looking for a room with a view may want to consider the new octagonal-shaped residential tower on Madison Avenue in New York. Some of the rental apartments have views of both the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building from floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The building’s shape gives it vantage points beyond the typical grid vista, said Evan Stein, president of developer J.D. Carlisle Development Corp. “We’re very proud of our architects placing the building on a 45-degree curve because it lets our tenants see the Manhattan skyline from a unique perspective, with some of the living rooms having views of two of New York’s iconic towers,” Stein said. One Sixty Madison, at the corner of Madison Avenue and 33rd Street, was stalled for years until the property changed ownership in 2012 and J.D. Carlisle took over. The 45-story tower has 319 apartments. The building is close to completion. Building amenities include a 3,571-square-foot lounge and rooftop area, a gym, a 13,667-square-foot lounge and a large terrace. “We’ve put in very attractive layouts typical of a condo, including 9-foot-high ceilings and extra-long living areas,” Stein added. Units released onto the market so far range in price from $3,235 per month for a studio apartment to $4,223 to $6,014 for one-bedrooms. Two-bedrooms start at $6,235 a month. Residents have started moving into the building. Stein says his company is already at work on another building in the neighborhood. “It’s going to be a big one and really beautiful,” he said.
