Kilkee House, a Georgian estate set on two lush and private acres at the coveted western end of Nassau’s Paradise Island in the Bahamas, is due to go under the hammer onDec. 3. The mansion, which was previously offered for $18.925 million, is to begin selling at or above $10 million in a special sale in New York. "The auction process is particularly suited to unique properties because it generates competition and activity all at once and we can identify and drive the highest price that the market is willing to pay," said Laura Brady, president of Concierge Auctions, which is supervising the sale. The sprawling 2-acre property with both beach and bay frontage is perched on a private stretch of sugar-sand beach along its northern edge. There are more than 200 feet of harbor frontage along the southern edge. The dock can accommodate a yacht up to 150 feet. Spread out over 11,000 square feet, and comprising four bedroom suites and a master bedroom suite, as well as separate staff accommodation, the mansion was built by A&P supermarket heir Huntington Hartford more than 60 years ago. He sold it to the acclaimed actor Richard Harris, who named the property Kilkee, after his favorite seaside town in Ireland. The current owners have restored the property, blending old-fashioned charm with a host of modern amenities. "This is the fifth property we have sold in the Bahamas and I think this one is going to do very well indeed. It’s probably going to be a holiday home for a very lucky person," Brady said.
