Listing of the Day

Location: Bozeman, Montana

Price: $6,999,999

Living in this home, you are immersed in nature, able to wake up to the sound of birds, and views of moose, deer and ducks roaming the property, with unrestricted mountain views from most of the rooms. Yet, you are also short drive from downtown Bozeman, Montana.

Susi Dokken, the listing agent at PureWest Christie’s International Real Estate, is also the owner of the property, and raised her three kids here. She is now building an "empty-nester home" nearby, as she’d never leave the state. "They call Montana ‘The Last, Best Place’ and I think it is true," she said. "I have lived in seven states and in Italy; 10 years ago I found Bozeman and I will never leave."

"We have couples who move to Montana where the husband wants to have a property that he can fish and ride horses so he picks something really isolated which is so inconvenient for groceries, restaurants and meeting people," Ms. Dokken said. "They often end up selling and moving closer to town. With this home, you have a world-class river and a stocked trout pond on the property and you can have horses as well but you also have great restaurants, yoga, barre, painting studios and fantastic organic grocery stores all within five miles."

Stats

The seven-bedroom house, with seven full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms, is set over 9,646 square feet on a 20.76-acre lot. Five of the bedrooms and bathrooms, plus two powder rooms, are in the main house. The second two bedrooms and bathrooms are in a connecting guest house.

Design pedigree

Award-winning architect Jerry Locati, who has been featured in many magazines including Architectural Digest, designed the house, which was built in 2006, at the end of a private road with East Gallatin River frontage.

The house is made with large reclaimed timber, heart of pine floors and stonework accents throughout. Including the five stone fireplaces inside and one large fireplace on the patio outside.

The master suite has a Calacatta Gold marble slab steam shower, the kitchens— there are two, one in the main house, one in the guest house—feature top-of-the-line appliances by Wolf, Sub-Zero and Viking.

Amenities

Outdoors, there’s  a hot tub and large covered space for cooking and entertaining, or taking in the magnificent view of water and mountains. The pond is stocked with trout, there’s a designated horse lot, and landscaping includes perennial beds, raised vegetable beds, a greenhouse and fenced-in apple orchard.

Inside is a large exercise room, wine room and library.

Neighborhood notes

Bozeman is surrounded by mountain ranges, with a green valley filled with trout streams and rivers. Outdoorsy types can take advantage of 80 miles of hiking and biking trails, or, said Ms. Dokken, you can be on a ski lift in three major resorts in under an hour. It is 75 miles to Yellowstone National Park.

"You are basically living a vacation lifestyle," she adds. "Bozeman also has a  fantastic school system and is a young college town with a youthful and relaxed vibe." Montana State University is in the town.
