Location: Mayfair, London

Price: £10.95 million (US$15.33 million)

While it is difficult to tell exactly how old some mews properties in London are, according to Knight Frank agent Alastair Nicholson, it is likely that this charming period freehold townhouse, in the heart of Mayfair village, was built in the 1890s or early 1900s.

Known until 1937 as Adams Mews, when the name was changed to Adams Row, the original purpose of the mews was to serve as stable or coach house accommodation for the main properties in Mount Street.

But in 1940, an explosive bomb is recorded as falling somewhere between Mount Street and Adams Row, meaning many of the properties had to be rebuilt, hence the current mews not showing any evidence of previous equestrian usage, aside from stable-like garage doors.

The sleek and modern home has been artistically refurbished and exquisitely designed by the seller, whose "exacting standards and artistic eye" mean that "the finish is exceptional," Mr. Nicholson said.

The owners are also family oriented, and have designed rooms to be open plan and multi-purpose, like the dine-in kitchen/family room with a retractable light well, or the cozy reception room that also functions as a double study area.
