Former tennis star John McEnroe has offloaded his Southampton estate with a tennis court where he has played leisurely for years.
The 8,000-square-foot beach house sold for $11.25 million last month, according to property records filed this week.
Mr. McEnroe, 58, first put the property on the market for $14.5 million in May 2016. Five months later, he reduced the price to $12.5 million and kept the price tag intact until he found a buyer.
Although he failed to fetch his asking price, Mr. McEnroe is still pocketing more than $7 million in profit. He and his wife, singer and songwriter Patty Smyth, purchased the estate for $4.2 million in 1999, property records show.
Sitting on 2.17 acres in the historic and exclusive Murray Compound neighborhood, the main residence offers eight bedrooms, eight full and two partial bathrooms, a living room with a vaulted ceiling, formal and casual dining rooms, a library, an office, a gym and a sunroom, according to the listing with Sotheby’s International Realty.
The master suite has two separate bathrooms, an expansive dressing room and French doors that open to a balcony.

One of the most coveted features is its private beach, said listing agent Kathy Konzet. “You can hear the waves from the property,” she said.
The outdoors are landscaped with green lawns, specimen trees and beautiful gardens. There is a swimming pool and a Har-tru (green clay) tennis court, of course.
The buyer’s identity has not been revealed in property records. Agent Pat Petrillo from Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyer and declined to comment.
