A sun-filled, surfer’s paradise has hit the market on the white sandy beaches of England—and yes, you read that right.
While competitive English surfers hit the pinnacle of their careers in places like Hawaii and Australia, many got their start on the waves in Cornwall. It’s here, along the raw beauty of Mawgan Porth, that an award-winning contemporary beach house is selling for £3.5 million (US$4.59 million).
The home known as Tanzarra listed last week and features rows of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sand and jagged bluffs that make up the Mawgan Porth.
“It is renowned as one of the best surfing beaches on the North Coast of Cornwall, with soft white sand, sheltered by cliffs on both sides and incredible sunsets,” said Hamish Humfrey, an associate at Knight Frank who is marketing the property.
“It is quite rare to find such a high quality, new-build home with direct access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall,” Mr. Humfrey added.
The two-story, timber-framed home has a flat roof, where the owner planted a garden of local native fauna, according to the listing. There are also eight square meters of solar panels that provide energy for hot water and the underfloor central heating system. In 2014, the Local Authority Building Control awarded the property best house in the south west for its use of modern materials and eco-friendly technology

The five-bedroom home comes with its own surfboard store room. For those inevitable rainy days, it also boasts a massive games room, sauna and a pizza oven on the deck. There’s also an additional den/library that could be converted into a sixth bedroom, according to the listing.
The property sits about 2.5 miles from Newquay Airport, and Mr. Humfrey said interest for such properties typically comes from London buyers looking for a second home. He also expects interest from “families looking to relocate to the North Coast, keen surfers, buyers who are conscious of reducing energy consumption…and those who enjoy entertaining.”
Besides surfing, Cornwall is known for kitesurfing, beach polo and zapcat racing.
