A residential compound in San Francisco’s Glen Park neighborhood occupying a full city block and including a French neoclassical main residence, a rental building, gardens and courtyards has come onto the market for $12.5 million.

The property, dubbed Chenery House after its street name, was developed in 1987 by advertising executive Robert C. (Bob) Pritikin.

Mr. Pritikin, 88, was responsible for Folgers Coffee television commercials, among other ads, and wrote three books, including "Christ Was an Ad Man."

He developed the home after missing out on buying the Presidio Heights estate "Le Petit Trianon," which was modeled after Versailles.

"He decided to buy a lot and build an estate with the same French neoclassical inspiration," said Joel Goodrich of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, who co-listed the property earlier this month with fellow agent Anne Laury.

Encompassing 0.57 acres, the estate is considered one of the largest private properties in San Francisco. French Neoclassical details can be found throughout, from the exterior facades and columns, as well as the double staircases and moldings inside.

The mansion, featuring views of the city skyline, has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a living room and an indoor pool with a retractable glass roof. "The living room, almost the size of a tennis court, is one of the largest living rooms in San Francisco," Mr. Goodrich said.

Mr. Pritikin has hosted many social events over the years, including his famed annual Labor Day party for 850 guests, with Carol Channing, Mickey Rooney, and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, of California, among them, according to Mr. Goodrich.

The mansion has an eclectic collection of art mostly from the legendary "Mansion Hotel" in Pacific Heights Mr. Pritikin owned from 1977 to 2000, including a portrait of Prince Phillip and a wall-sized replica of Rembrandt's "The Night Watch," according to Mr. Goodrich.

Mr. Pritikin wasn’t immediately available for comment.

In addition to the home, the estate has a three-unit rental building with a 15-car parking lot, which generates more than $20,000 a month.

Glen Park, located south of Noe Valley and adjacent to the 70-acre Glen Canyon Park, is popular with families who want to enjoy city living in a more peaceful corner of San Francisco.
