Location: Malibu, California

Price: $9.995 million

With its pristine white oak floors, perfectly patinaed rough-hewn wood, stone fireplaces, wide windows, and whitewashed walls, this Malibu, California, home nails the laid-back look.

It evokes the feel of a French farm house, said co-listing agent Tony Mark of Compass, with its "large indoor/outdoor spaces and open rooms. The dining room is super-sized and sits in front of a folding wall of glass that opens to the backyard. There’s a large stone fireplace at the base of the dining table, that helps bring an old-world European feel."

And this particular home was made to entertain. Mr. Mark can vouch for that himself.

"I attended a wedding party that [the current owner] threw for her best friend. There were over 100 people, a 12-piece orchestra in a tent above the pool, several bars, and full catering, and yet the house and yard easily absorbed all of this and managed to feel cozy, inviting, and intimate."

Outside of the home, Malibu’s highly coveted Point Dume is at your doorstep, and ownership allows private access to Little Dume Beach. "It’s one of the best, most scenic, and most private beach coves to be found anywhere in Southern California," said co-listing agent Russell Grether.

"Point Dume is known for its large parcels of land, great beaches, and high-end clientele," Mr. Grether said. "Many celebrities have sought it out because of its unique privacy and security offerings. Sales on the area range from $3 million for starter homes all the way up to $30 million for the bluff-side estates," he said, adding that he expects to see sales break the $40 million mark in the next few years.

The Stats

Set on nearly one acre of land, the home has 6,000 square feet of livable space, including a main house with five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, a guest house with one bedroom and one-and-a-half baths, and a studio loft with one bedroom and one bathroom.

Amenities

For those who like entertaining outdoors, there’s a pool with a wooden deck surrounding it, providing the perfect place for lounging. A wall-to-wall retractable window opens from the kitchen into the backyard for seamless entertaining. Off of the main living space, French doors open onto an outdoor fire pit and stone terrace. There’s also a spa and a four-car garage.

Design Pedigree

"The home was originally built in the 1980s, but has undergone a complete transformation over the last three years," Mr. Grether said. "The project was started by local designer/builder Morgan Brown, and was then taken over and completed by our client, [and current owner] Rachel Mumford, co-founder of Barry’s Boot Camp, working alongside her designer Kate Lester."

"The furnishings were designed by Lester, and were brought in for this specific house," he said. "The hope is that the next buyer will love what Kate and Rachel created and want to keep the main pieces of furniture intact."

All of the pieces inside the home are available to purchase at an additional cost.
