The French Alps are experiencing an increase in demand for ski homes. Buyers are taking advantage of lower interest rates, a weaker euro and reduced tax rates on foreign homeowners, according to the latest Knight Frank Prime Ski Property Index, which tracks the price performance of prime ski chalets across 15 resorts in the French and Swiss Alps. The Val d’Isere resort led the rankings. Situated in the Savoie region of southeastern France, about three miles from the Italian border, the area boasts what is considered some of the best high-altitude skiing in the Alps. The price of a four- to five-bedroom chalet in Val d’Isere was up 5.8% in the first six months of the year ending in June, compared with the same period in 2014, according to the report. Val d’Isere is particularly popular with British property seekers. As a result of the pound’s climb against the euro, a British buyer who bought French property in July would have saved roughly 11% compared with the previous year, according to Knight Frank’s research. Here’s a look at what’s on the market in Val d’Isere. These three properties, all listed on Mansion Global, range in price from €3.5 million to €9 million (about $3.8 million to $9.8 million).
