Listing of the Day

Location: Santa Eulalia, Ibiza

Price: €9.6 million (US$11.2 million)

From outdoor superclubs to raves in caves and glamorous pool parties, Ibiza is synonymous with hedonistic partying. But you don’t need to be a night owl to enjoy the White Isle. Many people also head to the Balearic island for a more sedate, relaxing experience.

Dotted across Ibiza’s hilly, wooded interior are hidden whitewashed estates, or fincas, which are ideal for families looking to unwind, relax and detox from their digital habits. This renovated house in the pine-covered hills above Santa Eulalia, nine miles from Ibiza Town, epitomizes the peaceful, enchanting side of the island.

The house is owned by a German family who bought it in 2001, after having previously rented it. They weren’t looking to buy a holiday home at the time, according to the owner Alexander Rittweger, but when we discovered it was for sale they decided to buy it. "It’s a really special place with a calming effect and lovely sea views," he said.

The Italian designer and architect Michele Bonan remodeled and refurbished the house, transforming it from a rustic abode with Balinese, African and finca-influenced interiors into a chic house with clean lines, a wraparound outdoor living room and extensive glazing and wooden detailing, which has echoes of mid-century modern architecture.

Not only does the house look stylish, it is also inexpensive to run and has low carbon footprint. Solar panels produce hot water, a wind turbine generates electricity and it has its own water supply from a well. It is largely self-sufficient in its energy needs, but it is linked to the national grid.

Hidden among lush vegetation on a mountainside, the house is surrounded by its own land and is not overlooked. The family purchased additional land to increase the privacy. "It is ideal for famous types with children," Mr. Rittweger said. "The nearest house is a kilometer away down the hill."

Mr. Rittweger said he is selling the house because his children have grown up and they want to vacation in other places. The house is a turnkey property; everything in the home is included in the sale—including the family’s two cars.

Stats

The 7,140-square-foot house has five en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor, and there’s a caretaker’s cottage with two bedrooms and a one-bedroom renovated guest house on the grounds. There’s a total of eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms on the property.

Amenities

With 14 acres of lush landscaped gardens, a decked area by the pool and a large covered terrace, the property has a diverse range of outdoor spaces, which means the house can take a lot of people without feeling crowded, according to Mr. Rittweger. "It’s a super comfortable house and it meets the needs of a whole family," he said.

Children can play on the trampoline in the upper garden, sporty types can work out and walk around in the extensive grounds, which extend to 14.2 acres, and those who want to relax with the latest bestselling paperback can do so on the upstairs terrace or by the pool.

Neighborhood Notes

The house is a few minutes’ drive from Santa Eulalia, which has a good range of amenities, while Ibiza Town, with its bars, clubs, restaurants and beautiful old town, is a 20-minute drive away.

It is seven miles from the pretty whitewashed village of Santa Gertrudis, which is home to an artistic community, craft shops and cafes.

Hollywood stars Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbenderreportedly married at La Granja, a luxurious farmstead resort less than 10 miles from the house.
