A two-bedroom apartment in an Emery Roth-designed co-op building in Manhattan that was the longtime residence of late filmmaker Jonathan Demme found a buyer after less than two weeks on the market. The final sales price, $2.4 million, is also just shy of its $2.495 million asking price.

Demme, who directed many acclaimed movies and documentaries, including "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director, lived in the apartment for about 30 years. He died last April at age of 73.

His estate listed the apartment in early October 2017 and it went into contract in 13 days, per records on listings site StreetEasy. The sale closed last month for $2.4 million, according to documents filed with City Registry last week.

"We found the right buyer for the very special apartment, which has direct views of the very beautiful part of Central Park," said Jannette Patterson of The Corcoran Group, who represented both sides of the deal.

"Jonathan [Demme] was loved by all of us at the Alden and he is deeply missed," said Ms. Patterson who also lives in the building. "He was very involved in Americans for Immigrant Justice and, after this closing, we made a donation to honor his memory and support this important organization."

The buyers, Alan and Robin Fuchsberg were attracted by the "magic views." "You can look into the woods and a playground from the unobstructed windows," said Mr. Fuchsberg, managing partner at Jacob Fuchsberg Law Firm, a civil rights and personal injury firm which was named after his father, a prominent lawyer, judge and founder of Touro Law School.

"I can imagine leaves changing colors in the fall and children playing at the playground. I can see how a sensitive movie director fell in love with the apartment, so did we."

"I feel very lucky to have the apartment, it has good karma, I will remember all the good things Jonathan did," Mr. Fuchsberg said.
