A 20-acre vineyard estate in Napa Valley, a five-year ardor of designing and building, has finally come to fruition and hit the market for $42 million Tuesday.

Dubbed Whitehall Estate after its location at South Whitehall Lane in Saint Helena, California, the property has approximately 14 acres of vineyards licensed for a 10,000-gallon-per-year production facility.

"The vineyard, in its third leaf, will soon enjoy its first harvest enabling the new owner to consider creating a private label Cabernet Sauvignon wine," said Gregg Lynn of Sotheby’s International Realty, who co-listed the property with fellow agent Ginger Martin.

Designed by Bay Area architect Lewis Butler, the residence features 6,700 square feet of space, including seven bedrooms, six full and four half bathrooms, spacious living and dining rooms with 14-foot glass walls, a chef’s kitchen and a butler’s kitchen, according to the listing.

"Throughout the property, there are dyed French walnut cabinets, glass walls and Schuco window systems," Ms. Martin said. "All the finishes are hand-selected and fabricated on site."

There is also a steel-suspended, floating storage system for showcasing a wine collection.

The living and dining areas open to an outdoor pool pavilion for an additional 3,600 square feet of living space, featuring a lava-stone fireplace, open-air kitchen and an infinity-edge swimming pool and spa, according to the listing. In the landscaped courtyard at the entrance to the home, there is an inlaid water feature by sculptor Archie Held.

According to Mr. Lynn, there are buyers worldwide looking for a wine country home that’s built to be a Napa Valley legacy. "We have seen significant interest while the property was under development, but most buyers want to see it complete," he said.

Before its completion, the property was shopped around for $38 million, The Wall Street Journal reported in 2015.

"Now the entire home is completely furnished. There are wines in the fridge and laundry detergent on the shelf," Mr. Lynn said. "We are opening our door."

Developer, Patrick Cahill declined to comment. He originally designed the home for himself but  relocated outside Northern California, according to Mr. Lynn.
