The Culross House in London seems like any other home on the residential block. But the six-level home was custom-designed with every amenity.
The 8,051-square-foot “townhouse-mansion” in the Mayfair neighborhood is set to hit the market next week for £35,000,000 (US$46.4 million). London developer K10 Group is behind the project, which took two-and-a-half years to complete. They brought in design firm Argent Design to create the interiors of the 15-room house.
Just a short walk to Hyde Park in Mayfair, the site of the home was once the coach house for the head groom to the Capel family, the Earls of Essex, according to the listing. A wealthy industrialist, Sir Thomas Stepney, bought the property in 1814, converting it in 1929 to a brick house.
The facade of that Edwardian home, with its large windows and gable pediment, has been reproduced by the developers, according to the listing. Builders used reclaimed brick to add to the historic look.
“It’s low-profile from the outside,” said Peter Wetherell, the chief executive of the real-estate agency Wetherell, which is handling the sale. But once inside, it has “everything everyone wants now.”
That includes an amazing entrance hall on the main floor, which leads to a great room that runs the entire width of the home. There’s space for both lounging and dining, and guests and residents can enjoy the garden via three sets of French doors.
A glass staircase and elevator run through the middle of the home, letting the light in, Mr. Wetherell said. There’s also an office with custom-made cabinetry and flooring on the main level, as well as a family room.
A state-of-the-art kitchen, designed by Smallbone of Devizes, is on the ground floor, as is a breakfast nook and an informal family room. The “smart kitchen” features technology that scans the cupboards and refrigerator for supplies and automatically orders them to be delivered and restocked.
Another level down is the marble-lined pool, massage room, spa and fitness area, according to the listing. There’s also a media room with lounge seating and a cocktail bar, plus a walk-in humidor and wine cellar. Staff quarters are located on the bottom floor.
There are two master suites on the second floor, with custom-made bathrooms and dressing rooms. Mr. Wetherell said they could also be joined for a full-floor suite. There are three additional bedrooms on the top floor.
The area is having a “renaissance as a residential area,” Mr. Wetherell said. He expects to see a jump in the amount of housing available there, as well as the population.
