A massive mansion in Englewood, New Jersey, that was reportedly home to screen legend Gloria Swanson, returned to the market Monday with an asking price of $17 million.

Dubbed Gloria Crest and built in 1926 by Count Stefan Poniatowski, heir to the Polish throne, the 24,000-square-foot mansion is rumored to have later been occupied by Gloria Swanson while it was owned by Lincoln Savings Bank, whose President was Ambassador Joseph Kennedy, father of President John Kennedy, during the two years of their much publicized relationship, according to Phyllis Lasser, listing agent of Coldwell Banker.

Swanson, who starred in many 1920s silent movies, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress three times, including for her role in 1950 film "Sunset Boulevard."

The current owner is listed in property records as Edward D. Turen, chairman and CEO of Control Equity Group, a global facility management company. He bought the home for $4.8 million in 2000.

He put the property on the market for $39 million in 2013, making it one of the most expensive homes in New Jersey. He dropped the price to $25 million and $24 million in 2014 and 2015, respectively, but failed to sell.

Ms. Lasser said they did find a buyer two years ago and went into contract for $20 million, but the foreign buyer had trouble getting his money into the U.S.

As the mansion was used as collateral for Mr. Turen’s business loan, it was scheduled to be foreclosed for auction by the bank in April. But Mr. Turen was able to keep up with his mortgage payment, according to Ms. Lasser.

"Gloria Crest is a unique estate for this part of the world, offering the charm and grandeur of classic Hollywood just four miles from Manhattan," Mr. Turen said in an email. " It’s been our pleasure to live in a home with such history and lavish style."

The property sits on five acres behind a 10-foot wall. The mansion includes eight bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and five half bathrooms. While maintaining original details like gilded moldings, fireplaces and a stained glass ceiling in the kitchen, the home has also been updated with modern amenities, including a home theater, a gym, home office and a bar, according to the listing.

On the landscaped property, there is an eight-car garage, a pool, and a lake with waterfalls.
