A Nashville, Tennessee, mansion that’s been home to a veritable who’s who of the music business will return to the market next week and is hoping to hit the right note with its $4.2 million asking price.

The nine-bedroom home on Franklin Pike is currently owned by Scott Underwood, the original drummer of the rock band Train, and his interior designer wife Cheryl―which might explain why the place is so pretty.

Mr. Underwood, who did not respond to questions about the sale, nabbed the mid-century modern estate last year under a limited liability company for $2.4 million, according to property records. But long before he unpacked, the house was playing host to other big names.

In 1974, country music star George Jones bought the estate, known as "First Lady Acres," for his then-wife Tammy Wynette. The home’s nickname, according to listing broker Paula Hinegardner, was a nod toward Wynette’s nickname as the "first lady of country music." It later went on to become home to record label big-shot Gayron "Moe" Lytle. In 1999 bluegrass musician Earl Scruggs lived there.

"The fact that the home has always been owned by musicians and music industry people speaks to just how special the property is,"  Ms. Hinegardner said. "Musicians are artists and artists often get their inspiration from their surroundings and there is definitely something about this very unique property that speaks to people."

Built in 1970, the almost 10,000-square-foot home comes with seven full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, separate staff quarters, six fireplaces, a theater room, a steam room and a gym and yoga room.

The property is equally well equipped outside, with a pool, an outdoor kitchen, a three-car garage, a Zen garden, a putting green and a helipad.

The Tennessean first reported the listing, which will be asking 23% less than the $5.5 million it listed for when it hit the market in March 2017.

Ms. Hinegardner and Krista Jameson of The Paula Hinegardner Group and Keller Williams Luxury Homes International are the listing agents.
