A sprawling and historic Melbourne, Australia, estate owned by the former chief executive of the Australia Post, Ahmed Fahour, is for sale and listed publicly for the first time.
The 2.5-acre estate known as Invergowrie, located in Melbourne’s affluent and leafy suburb of Hawthorn, could fetch between A$40 million (US$30.2 million) and A$44 million (US$33.2million), according to Marshall White, the brokerage listing the property. If the sale surpasses A$40 million, it will be the most expensive residential property ever publicly marketed in the city of Melbourne, listing agent Marcus Chiminello told Mansion Global.
Not far from the Yarra River in “one of Hawthorn’s most exclusive precincts,” the Colonial Gothic property was built circa 1851, according to the listing.
The estate features a 15-room bluestone manor, complete with pool, tennis court and spa. The property has plenty of space for visitors, including a detached three-bedroom cottage and a two-bedroom guest house converted from a stable. Additionally, a multipurpose hall that now houses a six-car garage, a gym and studio could be converted for a variety of uses. Altogether the property has nine bedrooms and seven bathrooms, according to the listing.
“It’s an exceptionally unique estate,” Mr. Chiminello said. “Rarely will you find the land holding of this size so close to the Melbourne central business district. It is rich in history though [it] offers an array of modern [amenities] coupled with a family focused layout.”
Mr. Fahour, 52, stepped down in 2017 from the Australia Post, a government-owned postal services corporation, and took on a new job as executive chairman of packaging group Pro-Pac.
He and his wife, Dionnie, purchased Invergowrie for A$22 million (US$16 million) in 2013, property records show. The family recently downsized to a five-bedroom Victorian nearby, which they purchased for about $16 million, according to reports.

This is the first time the estate has been publicly offered after changing hands privately over the years, said Mr. Chiminello, who is a director at Marshall White.
An “expressions of interest” marketing campaign that Mr. Chiminello launched via Instagram earlier this week will accept queries through June 19.
