Before Buying, London Millennials Will Have Paid Over £270,000 in Rent New research indicates that a London millennial renting an average-sized apartment from the age of 21 will have spent £273,210 (US$365,700) on rent before buying a home at age 32. Elsewhere, the data from Landbay’s National Rental Survey shows that young people renting outside London will have spent £110,830 (US$148,350) on rent in the same period. Millennials who never buy are forecast to spend £2.6 million (US$3.5 million) over their lifetimes for rent in London, and £1.1 million (US$1.5 million) for rent outside the city. City A.M.

Sweden’s Housing Downturn is Getting Worse Swedish home prices fell 2.9% in November after a 3% decline in October, according to HOX Sweden. That puts prices down 0.2% year-over-year, the first time there’s been an annual drop since 2012. Lack of supply and low interest rates had recently pushed up prices, but with a glut of units now on the market, sellers are starting to lower asking prices to speed up sales. Bloomberg

New Mortgage Rules Could Cause a 5% Drop in Canada’s Sales in 2018 The Canadian Real Estate Association has forecast that sales nationwide will drop 5.3% next year in response to tighter mortgage regulations that will go into effect on Jan. 1. The national home price is expected to drop 1.4% down to C$503,100 (US$394,000). With many buyers hurrying to close transactions by the end of the year, the association said, "These sales may come at the expense of sales in the first half of 2018." Vancouver Sun

Brentwood, California, Home by Paul R. Williams Asks $8.95 Million A 1930 Spanish Colonial home designed by famed Southern California architect Paul R. Williams has come on the market asking $8.95 million. The 6,500-square-foot, five-bedroom property includes a grotto-style backyard swimming pool, a sculpture garden, and a motor court.
