The previous owner was Dorrance Hamilton, the American heiress to the Campbell Soup fortune and a philanthropist who founded the SVF Foundation in Newport. She purchased the home in 1995 and died last year. Her estate handled the sale for the home, which Hamilton coined "Bird House," because of her love of birds, according to Ms. Greenman.

Ms. Greenman declined further comment on the home.

Ms. Sheindlin, 75, is known for her U.S. courtroom television show "Judge Judy," which has endured 22 seasons and amasses millions of viewers a day. A staple in syndication, Judge Judy is a household name, known for her harsh personality and direct manner in handing out verdicts. Ms. Sheindlin, whose net worth is estimated at $400 million, has won three Emmy Awards.

"Sited atop one of the highest points in Newport, 'The Bird House' is state-of-the-art in every aspect with exquisitely crafted details, top-of-the-line amenities, and exquisite landscaping," notes the news release.
