An 18th century, rural English estate hit the market earlier this month asking £10 million (US$13.4 million).

Set on 549 acres on the borders of the counties of Worcestershire and Shropshire, Mawley Hall is Grade I listed in recognition of its architectural significance, according to a news release from Savills, which is listing the property with Strutt & Parker.

"Mawley Hall is a hugely significant house showcasing some of the finest examples of the Baroque period in the country and is undoubtedly one of the finest houses architecturally to be offered for sale for some time," said Alex Lawson, director of Savills farms and estates, in a statement.

Built between 1728 and 1733 in the style of a Roman villa, the 12-bedroom home was only used by its original owners, Sir Walter Blount and his family, during the summer. The family of the current owners acquired the home in 1963, and undertook a five-year restoration of the house including the replacement of all the exterior stone facings, according to the statement.

Particularly notable rooms inside Mawley Hall are the reception hall with its Italianate plasterwork depicting busts and classical mythology, the oak drawing room, which is lined with carved oak paneling, and the marquetry room, which displays the woodworking technique with tropical hardwoods, rosewood and ivory.

Elsewhere on the property is a Grade II-listed coach house, currently used for entertaining, a two-bedroom detached lodge, a three-bedroom bungalow and several other structures providing guest and staff accommodation. Pheasant shooting and fishing is also possible.

"Its parkland setting at the heart of the estate with far reaching views from within is spectacular," Mr. Lawson said.
