Listing of the Day
Location: Montecito, California
Price: $8.75 million
This contemporary house has modern flourishes and clean lines throughout, with lots of floor-to-ceiling walls of glass that look out on dramatic mountain views.
“It is an incredible contemporary,” said listing agent Suzanne Perkins. “People are looking for lighter, brighter and whiter.”
The house on Woodley Road was built, for the current owners, in 2008 by the Warner Group Architects, which is based in Santa Barbara, California.
“The house is almost timeless,” Ms. Perkins said.
It’s “set on the side of a hill, with great outdoor living areas,” she said. “It’s very private and you have fabulous mountain views.”
Architectural details include an open-floor plan in the public rooms, stainless steel trim, frameless corner glass windows, 10- to 12-foot ceiling heights, custom Italian cabinetry, floor-to-ceiling steel casement windows and honed granite floors. The staircase tower has 26-foot ceilings.
The kitchen features built-in frosted glass cabinets and a butler’s pantry with built-ins that hold about 200 wine bottles. There’s also a built-in escritoire desk with a marble countertop and backsplash. The breakfast area has a built-in Sony TV with a modern pendant chandelier, a small bar and wine refrigerator, and outdoor terrace views.
The upstairs level features lower and upper landings. The lower landing offers access to the guest bedroom wing with two large guest bedrooms and en-suite baths, a laundry room and two large coat closets. The upper landing leads to the master suite.
“The master bedroom is spectacular,” with its own patio, sitting room and two large master baths, Ms. Perkins said. “All of the bedrooms are very large.”
The 6,200-square-foot house has three bedrooms, five full bathrooms and one partial bathroom. It sits on a 1.4-acre lot.
Amenities include a 1,500-square-foot three-car garage, elevator, outdoor hot tub and spa, 1,500-square-foot basement, outdoor terrace with a 15-foot custom stone waterfall, and an exercise room.
There are also two custom chandeliers: a Dale Chihuly red pepper chandelier and an Ingo Maurer Flying Flame LED chandelier in the dining room that gives the illusion of flickering flames.
Montecito, which is Spanish for ‘little mountain,“ is an unincorporated community in Santa Barbara County that sits just east of the city of Santa Barbara.
The house is in the Pepper Hill area of Montecito. "There are about 100 homes up there,” she said. “They are all very deluxe.”
Coast Village Road in Montecito, which is known for its “excellent restaurants, great shopping and beautiful specialty stores,” is within walking distance, she said. “It’s very much like a village.”
