You would be hard-pressed to find any shoddy handywork in this newly listed Los Angeles home—as the seller is celebrity carpenter Carter Oosterhouse from "Trading Spaces" and "Million Dollar Rooms."

Mr. Oosterhouse, 40, even plays the handyman superhero who swoops in to solve difficult renovations on his eponymous HGTV reality show "Carter Can."

The star woodworker and his wife, "Varsity Blues" actress Amy Smart, put their private, gated home on the market for $3.8 million on Monday, according to property records—the same day Ms. Smart posted about the birth by surrogate of their first child, a baby girl named Flora.

"Feeling so grateful to have her in my arms… after years of fertility struggles," Ms. Smart, 40, wrote on Instagram next to a photo of her with the month-old baby.

The couple, who married in 2011, bought the three-bedroom, four-bathroom home built in 1954 in April 2012 for $2.5 million, according to county property records.

A listing with luxury real estate agency The Williams Estates bills the home as a mini version of the San Ysidro Ranch, a 100-year-old celebrity wedding destination in the Montecito foothills. The home shares elements with the Santa Barbara resort, including natural stone fireplaces, high-pitched beam ceilings, a waterfall pool, a wraparound veranda and dramatic backyard views.

"You will truly feel as if you've escaped to your own permanent vacation in Santa Barbara," says the listing with agents Ranyi Williams and Branden Williams. The agency did not immediately return request for comment.

Photos of the home show a well-equipped kitchen with a central island, a bar area with its own sink and an open living room floor plan leading out to the patio and pool area. There’s also a large office space at the back of the house, which can be used for a media room or studio.

The images give a peek inside the couple’s life, which includes some East Asian relaxation techniques. Ms. Smart, who also practices kundalini yoga, keeps a gong and a Tibetan singing bowl, according to photos of the home.

The couple has also hung dream catchers over the headboards for each bed.

Representatives for Ms. Smart and Mr. Oosterhouse did not immediately return requests for comment.
