Supermodel and fashion mogul Heidi Klum bought a penthouse in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, according to property records.

Ms. Klum, 44, purchased the apartment for $5.1 million, which was $150,000 less than the asking price at the time of purchase. The house had been on the market since June 2016, with an initial asking price of $6.25 million, according to StreetEasy.

The sale closed on Feb. 27, according to the deed. She bought it under shell company called HK East Coast LLC, which is registered to Ms. Klum’s business address.

The apartment is a large loft space with hardwood floors and exposed columns. The listing, which was represented by Edward Hickey, Elise Gold Flangos and Jack Wagner of Compass, calls it "one of the last of its kind." Mr. Wagner declined to comment on the sale or details of the property.

At the top floor of a six-floor building, the 4,800-square-foot loft has southern and eastern exposures providing views of Manhattan’s downtown skyline and will require a total renovation, the listing said.

The purchase came with the right to install up to 120 square feet of skylights. The property does not currently have any skylights.

The apartment also has access to roof space, the listing says. However, the rights to develop it into a roof deck would need to be obtained separately from the co-op.

The building also has access to the adjacent Mercer Street. Another unit two floors down from Ms. Klum’s sold earlier in February for nearly $10 million, according to StreetEasy. That unit, though smaller at 4,100 square feet, was fully renovated.

Ms. Klum, who is an executive producer and host on Lifetime’s "Project Runway," reportedly already owns a $9.9 million home in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Mr. Klum’s representatives declined to comment on the purchase.

The sale was first reported by Variety.
