Ellen DeGeneres has plunked down $18.6 million for a beachfront property in Carpinteria, California—the highest on-market sale this year in Santa Barbara County.
The comedian, TV host—and serial house flipper—closed on the contemporary five-bedroom mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean south of Santa Barbara last week, according to property records. She purchased it through a private trust and her business manager, records show.
A tree-lined drive leads to a cedar-shingle house with contemporary interiors and window-lined walls overlooking the ocean, according to photos of the home.
The property was marketed as an “extensively renovated” house with a large guest house, clay tennis court and plunge pool, though the talk show host may well put the home under the knife the way she has with the rest of her collection of properties across Southern California.
Ms. DeGeneres, 59, has even taken her penchant for redecorating to her fans with a show on HGTV called “Ellen’s Design Challenge.”
Her new digs will give her about 6,000 square feet to play with, including a sprawling second floor master suite with a private office, bedroom, gigantic walk-in closet and bath overlooking the water.
The house was the most expensive on-market home sale in Santa Barbara in 2017, according to the listing agents and data on property site Redfin.

Marsha Kotlyar of MK Properties and Kathy Winter of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services represented the seller. A representative from MK Properties confirmed that the home sold but could not disclose the buyer.
Agent Suzanne Perkins of Sotheby’s International Realty, represented Ms. DeGeneres in the sale. She and a rep for the talk show host did not immediately return requests for comment.
Ms. DeGeneres could squeak out another record-setting deal in the county if she manages to sell a 1930s Tuscan-style villa that she listed this year for $45 million.
