It's a given that the oldest state capital in the U.S.—also known as Santa Fe— would be one of the most scenic, but it also happens to be one of the most transformative, beloved as much for its mystical, creative energy as it is for its natural landscapes. It makes sense, then, that architects and developers honor the city's spirit, creating simple, artistically minded properties like this 6,878-square-foot home.

Completed in August 2016, the architecturally spare home—which has never been lived in—sits on 2.95 irrigated acres that border the Santa Fe National Forest and overlooks lush orchards and an 18-feet x 50-feet lap pool; a perfect showpiece for a buyer looking to combine his or her love of nature with creativity and modern design.

"This was built by a couple who wanted to live in a space that showcased their art and surrounded them with clean, contemporary lines," said Sotheby's listing agent Roxanne Apple, who explained that even the swimming pool was designed with the natural world in mind. "[It's] sited to reflect the sky at all times of day."

In addition to what Ms. Apple calls an "immaculately rendered" space, there's also the potential to add even more of it. "The original plan called for the construction of a separate guesthouse below the pool and to the side of the orchard, but due to [unforeseen circumstances], the guesthouse wasn't built, but the site is ready for that," she said.

Another perk: The prime location, which Michael Violante and Paul Rochford—principals of Violante & Rochford Interiors, which conceived and staged the home's design—agree is as much of a draw as the distinctive space. Tesuque in Santa Fe"is high-end, and has the feel of being out in the country yet, downtown Santa Fe is only seven minutes away," they said. "And, we love the juxtaposition of a new house in an older, more historic area. It really works—we call it casual elegance."

More:This Santa Fe estate features a bowling alley, a shooting range and a television production studio

If you're looking to walk in and be blown away by a million bells and whistles and exaggerated details, though, you might want to keep walking. According to Ms. Apple, this home is one best suited to buyers who appreciate natural simplicity. "This is not a house that screams at you," she said. "It whispers and then it wows. Whoever buys it will be someone who appreciates that."

The Stats

With three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, the breakdown of the 6787-square-foot-home is unique: The main level is spread across 4281 square feet, the lower level is 1406 square feet, and there's a 1100-square-foot heated 3-car garage.

Design pedigree

The home was designed by celebrated New York architect Richard Gluckman, overseen by local executive architect Lorn Tryk and constructed by one of New Mexico's premier builders. Staging was done by Violante & Rochford.

Talking points

According to Ms. Apple, the lower level was initially designed to be used as art and wine storage, but the builders also put in a roomy half bath which makes it easily usable as media room, studio, or exercise room.
