The 207-acre Gilford Castle Estate in Gilford, Northern Ireland, has been listed for £2.3 million (US$3.12 million).

The castle, listed Monday, has been owned by the same family for more than a century, according to James Butler, head of Country Houses, Farms and Estates for Savills Ireland.

It was purchased in 1913 by James F. Wright, a successful merchant and stockbroker in Hong Kong and Manila, and his wife, Mary, who was the niece of the third chief manager of HSBC.

The castle is distinct, Mr. Butler said, because "it was built to entertain." Although the castle is in the Scottish Baronial style, the structure only dates to the 1860s (a castle built in the 17th century was originally on the site).

The main castle has 13 bedrooms, eight reception rooms and three kitchens. It also has three full bathrooms and 11 partial bathrooms. There is a large reception hall, a dining room with a domed ceiling and an enclosed courtyard.

The architecture exhibits distinctive features, such as turrets, a conical roof and bay windows. Inside, there are a number of additional period details such as marble and oak fireplaces, columns, decorative molding on the ceilings and a stained glass window.

The grounds also have a stableyard building with two bedrooms, two kitchens and a sitting room.

The amount of land that comes with the property makes it "extremely rare" for the Northern Ireland market, Mr. Butler said. Additionally more than half of the land can be used for agriculture. The rest is split among landscaped yards and roads and woodland.

The property, which is 29 miles from Belfast, also contains a six-acre walled garden with the remains of a greenhouse, according to the listing.
