The former home of baseball legend Barry Bonds—a mashup between a Tuscan villa and an over-the-top Beverly Hills megamansion—has gone into contract.

The most recent asking price for the palatial estate was an eye-popping $31 million, according to listing records.

The current owner, who entered into contract on Thursday, bought the home from Mr. Bonds under a shell company in 2014 for $22 million, according to county property records. That’s a 41% return if the offer goes through at asking price.

Fans of the retired home-run king and former San Francisco Giants left fielder will be pleased to know that the current owner didn't meddle with Mr. Bonds’ style, save for updating a few furnishings, said listing agent Rayni Williams of Hilton & Hyland, who referred to Mr. Bonds as "very meticulous" in his design.

The architecture and amenities are as extreme as before.

The home has seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms and 17,000 square feet of space. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for this mega-manse brimming with quirky Classical Revival-inspired architecture.

There are several bubbling fountains on the grounds as well as an arcaded outdoor terrace. The interior boasts second-story stained glass windows and the kind of travertine tile floors you might find in a Tuscan estate.

The central two-story courtyard, flanked by colonnades and topped with a skylight, could fit just about any size Christmas tree. And that's important since the likely buyers are hoping to move in before the holiday, Ms. Williams said.

Hand-painted romantic frescos of fictional ruins and Italian countryside line a corridor as well as the walls of the home cinema—which is complete with its own red-and-gold theater carpeting, a popcorn station and bar.

The house comes with a generously sized gym, pool, spa, steam sauna and outdoor "sport court," including a basketball hoop and a tennis court, according to the listing. The backyard contains a separate poolside, two-story guest house.

And lest you get lost amid all the Tuscan-inspired details, there are two glowing, built-in fishtanks in the living room to bring you squarely back to Beverly Hills.
