The home of Hollywood icon Arthur Hiller, who rose to prominence during the 1960s and ’70s as the director of comedies like “The In-Laws,” “Plaza Suite” and the heart-tugging blockbuster “Love Story,” is on the market for $12.45 million.
During his 60-plus-year career in television and film, Hiller, who died in August at age 92, worked with stars ranging from Al Pacino in “Author! Author!” to Gene Wilder in “Silver Streak.” He was president from 1993 to 1997 of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hosts the Oscars.
Before his death, the industry bigwig and his wife of 68 years, Gwen Hiller—who died just a few months before him—owned a Mediterranean Revival-style mansion on Benedict Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills, according to property records.
This is the first time the 23-room home has been for sale since it was built sometime between 1968 and 1970.
The white stucco house with a red-tiled roof sits on about an acre of land and offers unrivaled privacy, said listing agent Juliette Hohnen of Douglas Elliman.
“The best feature of the home is the privacy. It’s off a private driveway, it’s not even on Benedict Canyon,” said Ms. Hohnen.
The home has eight bedrooms, six bathrooms and a lush lawn encircled by a privacy hedge. The interior includes a chef’s kitchen with a butler’s prep area and a living room that leads out through window-lined French doors to the backyard pool.
The master bedroom has dual baths and closets and is connected to a private office, the listing says.
Images of the home show an attached three-car garage with a large paved courtyard for parking at the front of the home. Inside, a wood-paneled entryway and arched doorways lead to the living spaces, as well as a wine cellar on the first floor.
The home first hit the market at the end of September for $16.5 million. But it has undergone several price cuts since, including one on Tuesday, which reduced the price to $12.45 million.
