Location: Diani, Kenya

Price: KES 330,000,000 (US$3.25 million)

This sprawling villa features lush tropical gardens, 60 meters of pristine beach frontage and great views of the Indian Ocean.

"Of the Kenyan beach locations, Diani is one of the premier tourist destinations in the world," said Knight Frank’s Anthony Havelock. It offers "flawless beaches, a coral reef with thriving marine life, and ideal surf for water sports" as well as high-quality hotels, resorts, restaurants and beach clubs." Last year, Diani was ranked as the seventh best beach in Africa by TripAdvisor he said, with a warm tropical climate that makes it an ideal escape from European winters.

Villa Ahana has an open-air central courtyard with palm trees and a handsome terrace that overlooks the private swimming pool, plunge pool, landscaped gardens and ocean. There is also a large rooftop terrace for panoramic ocean views.

The interior of the villa is well thought out, Mr. Havelock said, with a "layout that effectively utilizes the available space to create a continual flow of movement throughout the house and from room to room."

Architectural and design details include graceful pillars, large arched windows that flood the house with natural light and contemporary marble flooring.

"The property would function well as a private holiday home," Mr. Havelock said, but could also "easily be converted into a boutique hotel," he added, subject to obtaining the necessary approvals.

Neighborhood notes

Villa Ahana is situated at the southernmost end of Diani Beach, where it meets Galu Beach, Mr. Havelock said.

The villa is 10 minutes from shopping centers and retail shops, he said. Various popular restaurants and the Diani International School are also within easy reach.

A good number of parks and game reserves are also nearby, including the Shimba Hills National Reserve, which is about 40 kilometers away. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including antelope, giraffe, buffalo, leopard and a large population of elephants.
