Musician Daryl Hall, of Hall & Oates fame, built the main residence at what is now called Fraser Ridge Farm by dismantling and moving two 18th-century homes originally located several miles from one another near Hartford, Connecticut.
The houses had each been built originally by captains of the Revolutionary War and were meticulously re-erected and restored on the current site by Mr. Hall in 2004. Historic and recreated materials were used to build a great room that would authentically connect these two late 18th century structures.
Mr. Hall sold his farm, which he called Flint Hill, to the current owners in 2013, who named it Fraser Ridge Farm, according to Claudia Jiskra of McGrath Realty. The property has since been expanded with the purchase of 200 additional acres in 2014. The grounds, now 423 acres in total, feature open meadows, rolling fields, lush, mature woodlands and sublime views.

Remote without being isolated, the farm lies less than two hours north of New York City and just 10 minutes by car from “all these great little towns of the Harlem Valley,” as described by the home’s agent, Claudia Jiskra of McGrath Realty Inc., as well as from the Wassaic Metro North train stop. Amenia is a thriving town with the Silo Ridge Country Club currently under development and plenty of multi-million dollar houses going up in the area, according to Ms. Jiskra.
The farm is also a stone’s throw from the towns of Millbrook and Sharon in Connecticut, and Millerton and Pawling in New York.
The main house has 8,559 square feet with five bedrooms, and five-and-a-half baths. Multiple outbuildings add an additional 5,000 square feet, six bedrooms, five baths, as well as multiple kitchens and living spaces. The 2,500-square-foot guest barn has two bedrooms, two baths, a sleeping loft, a two-story great room, kitchen and dining area. A scenic pergola delivers you to the casita, a one-bedroom and one-bath private cottage.
A 1,500-square-foot two-story recreation barn includes a kitchen, game room, bath and loft that sleeps five to eight guests. Finally, nestled in the woods, is another cabin with one bedroom and one bath.
The amenity-rich grounds feature over 10 miles of well-manicured trails for hiking, hunting, sport or riding; multiple ponds to swim, fish and boat; a sporting clay course and a 200-yard rifle range; fenced-in pastures for livestock or horses; and several bonfire pits, including a Neolithic fire pit on the east slope designed by internationally renowned British landscape designer Keir Davidson.
The house itself has nine fireplaces in addition to the outdoor fire pits, an indoor swimming pool and pool house, media room, fitness center and billiards room. A Savant Home Automation system controls the home’s eight televisions. A full-house sound-system and a Lutron Lighting system, as well as a temperature- and humidity- controlled 1,800-bottle wine cellar, provide additional conveniences.
The great room—which was built by Mr. Hall using reclaimed materials to connect the two original and reconstructed 18th century structures—served as the backdrop of the TV show “Live from Daryl’s House,” which started as a free monthly web show in late 2007. Among the performers featured were Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, and Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
