Why not skip the cashmere sweaters and really surprise your family this holiday season with Abbey Farm, a 30,000-square-foot chateau-style estate for sale in Colts Neck, New Jersey? It might be a little more of an investment, but one that makes sense for a buyer seeking a spectacular retreat less than 50 miles from New York City.
Located on Montrose Road, the gated property—which sits on 24 acres and is comprised of a main mansion and a detached guest house—was built in 2012 by current owner Abbey Feiler, a non-practicing attorney, as an homage to hand-crafted French castles, and it shows. Before guests even enter the palatial main residence (which can be traversed via an elevator; a double helix staircase; and two spiral staircases, one of which is hidden from public view) they’re faced with a winding driveway, lush greenery, and large ponds, all things Engel & Völkers broker Sarah F. Findel cites as part of the property’s charm.
It’s unique “to see the majestic mansion come to life as you drive in,” she says, adding that the home appears as if it’s been sitting in the same exact spot for 300 years—a detail that was important to Ms. Feiler—yet has all the modern-day amenities anyone could want.
Among those amenities are luxe design elements, such as an antique brick and stone exterior, Doric columns, French doors, windowed walls, marble floors, and—Ms. Feiler’s self-proclaimed favorite part of the whole shebang—a jaw-dropping master closet that includes a center spiral that revolves around a private dressing room.
As for who she could see snapping up this special estate, Ms. Findel cites entertainers and sports figures, but says she can also envision a CEO or business executive who values privacy and safety, yet needs to be close to the city. Whoever decides to make Abbey Farm their own, however, has to appreciate the attention to detail present in every inch.
“From the man-made ponds and fountain that welcome you home to the 60-acre horse trails that border the property, there are just no words to describe how amazing this property truly is,” she says.
Owners of Abbey Farm will have six bedrooms to inhabit, as well as seven full bathrooms, three half baths, six garages, a butler’s pantry and a courtyard.
According to Ms. Findel, the main house is broken up into 18,000 square feet (the first and second levels) while the basement clocks in at an additional 12,000 square feet.
The guest house is partially finished and can easily be made into several bedrooms upstairs, and the lower level is finished to accommodate a small kitchen and living space.
You’ll also get central air, eight fireplaces, an elevator, elaborate crown moldings, two custom kitchens, a courtyard, and 20-foot ceilings in the guest cottage.
Abbey Farm was designed by New Jersey architectural firm J. Costantin LLC, and built by Clockworks Development.
Fans of Bravo’s reality show “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” might recognize this home as the scene of the ladies’ annual Lady Bug Foundation gala.
